Mantras

  • I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.
I learn by going where I have to go.
    --Theodore Roethke
  • Freedom is what you do with what's been done to you.
    -- Jean-Paul Sartre
  • I'm Nobody! Who are you?
    Are you—Nobody—Too?
Then there's a pair of us!
    Don't tell! they'd advertise—you know!

    How dreary—to be—Somebody!
    How public—like a Frog—
To tell one's name—the livelong June—
    To an admiring Bog!
    --Emily Dickinson

Yup, I got "fearless", too. But I knew it was going to be skewed when the second question asked me whether, in the 17th century, I would be a poet, philosopher, explorer, or inventor -- when the real answer would probably be "poverty-stricken old crone whose smart mouth gets her hauled before the Inquisition." Which, by the way, I *would* fear.

Oh yeah, I had the same reaction! I was like, wait, where's "courtesan"??

I was looking for dairy maid, myself on that one. Or dead. I don't think I'd have survived to adulthood.

    I left it blank.

Now, I think you are fearless. Anyone who can drop everything to go to law school and survive the first year is truly fearless!

    My word is "WHY:

"You see life as complicated and intriguing. The only thing you know for sure is that you haven't figured it all out yet.
You question everything and believe very little. And whatever you believe is likely to change.

"You are interested in theories, philosophies, and religions... even if you don't buy into any of them.
You are also fascinated by how things work. You'd like to understand as much in the world as possible."

Not a bad guess from only 5 questions!

    I'm another fearless one.

We always knew you were fearless ;-)

Heh, thanks for the reassurance on my fearlessness, guys! To me, going to law school was the less scary route, but I guess mileage varies.
