Anyone need some clothes?
This afternoon I've been cleaning out the closet to pack what I want to keep and get rid of what I don't, which I've been piling on the bed. This is the result of about an hour's work:
And this is AFTER I went through the closet/dresser once a few weeks ago and threw out one garbage bag's worth of old beat-up stuff, and brought two stuffed grocery bags to Goodwill.
I think I'm throwing/giving away more clothes than LDH owns.
You may also notice a pattern in shoe color.
The really sad part? Some of this is old, out-of-date stuff that I don't want to wear anymore. But most of it is stuff that just doesn't FIT anymore. Still, at this point I figure it's better for me to wear fewer things, that actually fit me properly, in more regular rotation, than it is to hang onto all this stuff and squeeze myself into a piece now or then.
Besides, if I lose weight, I'll want to buy all new stuff anyway. :-)

The pile reminds me of my own, except that mine had fewer shoes. Purging is its own reward for, as you noted, when you're settled in your new place and feeling more fit, you'll have room to stow all the new stuff you'll be sure to buy!

I just did this too. Bags and bags, though, because I had grad student clothes and all the going-on-the-market clothes, after which followed a pregnancy (+50 pounds, in maternity clothes) and a maternity leave (-50 pounds, in schlumpy clothes) followed by a return to work covered in spit up (no wool clothes) so that there was stuff I haven't worn for three years! But I only throw out shoes when they wear out.
Gah. But then there was so much room in my closet, I just *had* to buy a new I'm A Serious Academic suit at JCrew when I was in Chicago for BlogHer :-)

I really need to do this. I just keep hoping I can drop that last 10 pounds, because that would make a huge difference with what I keep and what I through away. I have a bunch of stuff I can get on, but not actually wear. Of course, if I do manage to do that, a lot of really nice clothes will need alteration or putting away in case I get back up to that large size 10 (most of the clothes I want to get into are size 10 circa 5-8 years ago, although some are big 8s). Thank goodness I've got rid of the actual big clothes. Don't forget to get a receipt for all those donations, btw. You'll want it and all the moving receipts for taxes!

I think that pile is more clothes than I own, period. And way more shoes. I am a horrible shopper (i.e., I never step foot in a store), and so if I donated what I have to Goodwill, I think I might be able to fill a Ziploc bag.
Good for you for weeding that closet!

Oh hey, I totally have those shoes on top of the pile too!
I'm still appreciating the streamlined wardrobe that resulted from the purge before last summer's move. I'm pretty much at the point where I can open the closet and pull out any top and bottom and know that they'll fit, as opposed to having to rootle through stuff that doesn't fit anymore. That state won't last long if I stay in one place for more than another year or so, though living in a place with no shopping and no place to go help keep the wardrobe lean and mean, I must say.
