Okay, CafeSiren, since you suggested this...
Today I accomplished the following:
- 1 hr. walk (I know that for many of you this is probably what you accomplish getting to and from various places, or chasing your kids around, but for me, that's exercise, folks!)
- 2 hrs. work on my research
- ~ 1 hr. writing = 1052 words (they're very sloppy, but better than nothing)
- ~ 1 hr. reading/note-taking
- the purchase of an outfit for an upcoming wedding (at Talbot's, where there are huge sales, but was what I liked on sale? noooooooo! sigh)
- the eating of dinner (two ears of corn and a carrot salad)
- the watching of lame TV and surfing of the web for shoes for aforesaid outfit
I honestly think that's it. Hmmm.
Tomorrow I'm going to help a friend move in the morning (she's leaving town, sigh!), so my plan is to roll out of bed, eat breakfast, and go; then come home, shower and grab lunch, and head out somewhere to work (probably the coffeeshop). We shall see how well it works.
What about you, CafeSiren?

I'm incredibly sedentary since I no longer have to chase my children. B and I try to go walk regularly, but it's a crapshoot.
Your dinner sounds very sad! Corn and carrots? I love both, but how filling is that? I'd be binging within the hour.

An hour's exercise, two hours of actual work, & taking care of various necessary tasks, like shopping, sounds like a good day's work to me, actually.
I have just spent three hours writing a bad page of a conference paper, & would have been very happy to have produced as many words as you, sloppy or not!

Over 1000 words is impressive!
As for me, the heat prevented me from doing anything but being a motionless slug for most of the afternoon (morning was given over to meetings), But in the evening:
--skimmed 30 pages of deadly dull stuff & took some notes
--organized my recent notes and previous writing to coincide with the half-chapter outline I finished last night; separated said notes into two chunks that will hopefully take a day apiece, and left third chunk of half-chapter to be organized over the weekend.
Zero words, but poised to hit the ground running tomorrow morning. "Park on the downhill slope," as they say.

By the way, I can understand the corn-and-carrots dinner impulse. When the heat climbs above a certain temperature, most food other than fruits & veggies weigh heavily (not normal for me). I had chilled curried mango soup, and couscous salad.

Aren't you too young and cute for Talbots? :)

Hee! Shrinky, what you have to realize is that a) in college my friends voted me Most Likely to Shop at [Local Incredibly Preppy/Conservative/Classic New England Clothing Store], and b) I now have the figure of the middle-aged matrons to whom Talbots caters! Seriously, I actually really like Talbots, b/c their stuff fits me pretty well. I will admit that a LOT of their stuff is too staid, but I can find some nice classic separates there. And this outfit (which isn't online or I'd link to it) is really cute - sleeveless, sort of crossover/empire waist top (which actually makes me look busty, omg!), with matching A-line skirt, in a dark brown matte jersey with funky little champagne, brown, and burgundy dots all over it.
Plus, I want to jazz it up with some red shoes and jewelry.
But honestly, I am kind of boring in my style - you know the shirt you posted a picture of the other day? The striped shirt that you silk-screened? I think that was completely adorable. And I would never wear it - something with a picture? AND stripes? My "everything must match" alarm would be going off all day! I'd love it on you, but it's like the way I love short hair - it looks great on other people, but I couldn't pull it off.
(Although I am yearning to inject a little more funkiness into my style...)

Going in reverse order - go, CafeSiren! That sounds incredibly productive to me. It sounds more like real work, actually, than my writing was - I really think a lot of my words from yesterday are going to end up in the can. But you gotta start somewhere...
Wanna do this again today?
And Shelly - well, I didn't mention the whole wheat Fig Newtons I had later. ;-) However, it was only a few, not the whole box, so I consider that an achievement! As for the dinner, I was just really in the mood for vegetables. Cuz usually I just eat crap!
(And thanks, Nomadic Postdoc! Good luck with the rest of your conference paper!)

Yep, let's go!
(It's either work, or listen to W give a press conference, and I can't stand to grind my teeth that much).

Oh my goodness - 1000 words in an hour? That's amazing. I'm pleased with myself if I can manage 300. You rock, indeed.
