Whew! Thanks, New Kid. I was already starting to sift Google for a cached page!

And, even more, thanks for such a great carnival.

I have to say, I expected a lot more irritation from the TypePad users I read. Did Six Apart do something I don't know about, like give everyone a free month of service?

Actually, Typepad did that a month or so ago, to apologize for problems with service at that point. (They had a neat system: you could take one month free, automatically; if you hadn't felt inconvenienced, you could decline the free month; or if you felt really inconvenienced, you could get more than one month.)

I know Typepad's not a free service like Blogger, so we are all paying, but honestly, I think they offer very good service in general and the occasional blip isn't surprising given the volume they must be dealing with. I mean, this is technology, and sometimes it breaks. It wasn't really that long a downtime in the grand scheme of things.

But then, my blog is hardly what I'd call crucial to, well, anything - I'd have been really bummed if I'd lost the Carnival, but I knew I could get it back via Bloglines. If it were a commercial site I'd have been much more upset.

I did see a new blog created during the downtime, "We are the refugees of Typepad" (or something like that), and to be honest, I thought it was a really pretty snotty response.

I'm just relieved nothing got lost. Whew! Cool about the free month a while back.
